Rockmart, GA
The city of Rockmart, GA, is located in Polk County along U.S. Route 278, roughly 15 miles northwest of Dallas. Rockmart covers 4.3 square miles of land, home to an estimated population of about 4,300 people under the motto, “Where Past & Present Stroll Side by Side.”
Rockmart developed as a railroad depot town when the Southern Railway built a local station. The community was incorporated in 1872, named for abundant deposits of slate in the area, as well as the town’s position as a major quarry and rock market. In recent years, Rockmart saw economic expansion beginning in the 1990s, including new restaurants, shopping and residential development. The city takes pride in the growth of its Cultural Arts Center and a variety of related activities. Rockmart’s Downtown Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
